In February of 2010, Dave will begin working as a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) in Antigua & Barbuda, which are near Puerto Rico. The Caribbean Agri-Business Association (CABA) has requested a volunteer to teach computer topics as well as develop a database to help manage crop production. If I understand the problem correctly, farmers currently tend to plant items that command the highest market prices. When multiple farmers do this at the same time, it simultaneously causes a glut for the items they planted and shortages for other items which are especially expensive because they must be imported. With the help of the Peace Corps, CABA hopes to mitigate these problems with a database system that tracks demand, prices and production.
